How Beer Is Made
The lager brewing process or the inception of lager via the method of fermentation has a long and great history. Actually you can trace the beginning of the process in the olden Egyptian days, with the lager recipe descriptions to be found in the traditional documents of Sumeria.
The complex lager brewing process or lager lagering has a number of steps which are important in making a great quality lager.
The first stage of the lager brewing process is the malting. Here the malt is crushed and drenched in water. Ultimately a malt extract is made. The mash is then maintained at incessant temperature, which is sufficient for starches to become fermentable sugar.
Sparging is the next lager brewing process. Here’s where the water is filtered through the mash for sugar to get dissolved. The dark coloured sweet liquid is what you call wort.
The third process of lager brewing is known as boiling, wherein the wort is boiled with other lager ingredients. The boiling process takes away unnecessary water and also destroys all existing types of microbes. Hops, either extract or whole, are added as the mixture is continuously boiled. Fermentation is the process when yeast is added. Later, the mixture is left to stand for a mentioned period of time. We should ensure that the yeast and other particles and matter have truly settled, otherwise, we’ll have to repeat the fermentation process again.
The last stage of the lager brewing process is packaging. In this stage, the lager contains alcohol, even tho less quantity of CO2 than what’s required. To effectively increase the level of carbon-dioxide, carbonation can be done, whereby the CO2 is added straight to the lager keg or bottle.
